Update 23/02/06
RCE has pretty much died out and seems unlikely to become a problem in the future.
Only a small number of titles have this protection and most modified DVD Players can play them without problems.
RCE seems to have had little or no impact on Pioneer, Sony and Panasonic upgrades but some problems have been reported on Toshiba players.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PANASONIC OWNERS
Beware of buying Region 3 DVDs from CDWOW as some of these disc carry an RCE type protection and will not play on ANY auto region Panasonic DVD Player / Recorder.
All our Panasonic upgrades handle Region 1 RCE without any problems.
How does RCE affect our Multiregion Upgrades ?
Most of our upgrades work perfectly with RCE titles however some are affected.
There are some of our upgrades that will simply NOT allow RCE protected disks to play AT ALL , these are listed below
Sanyo DAV821
Sony NS300 / NS400 / NC600 and the older 335/336/535/536/735 models.
Toshiba SD22VB
All Philips DVD RECORDERS
Toshiba 110 / 210 and JVC 521 / 522 / 523 struggle a little with RCE and you must play a True Region 1 ( not RCE ) disk before attempting to play the RCE disk , this process forces the player into Region 1 mode to allow the RCE disk to play.
Older Toshiba players can play the RCE dvd by using one of the tricks detailed on the link at the top of this page.
