FAQ

Q) I've upgraded my Region 2 DVD player ,  Region 1 DVDs now play but they are in black and white , what is wrong ?

A) Your TV is PAL format and the Region 1 DVD is NTSC format , see below for help .....

i)  Check in your TV's user manual to see if it can be set to display NTSC correctly.

ii) Check in your DVD player's user manual to see if the player can be set to output NTSC discs as PAL or PAL50 / PAL60. This option is often available on Panasonics and Pioneers but rarely on Sonys.

iii) Connect the DVD player using a SCART lead to the AV1 input on your TV , ensure the DVD player is set to output RGB on the SCART socket ( Consult your user manual ).

If you have a player without a SCART socket , a TV that is not NTSC compatible and a player that cannot output NTSC discs as PAL , PAL50 or PAL60 ( Such as a Sony DAVS System ) then you need to buy a new NTSC compatible TV !

Q) What does Macro Off mean and why would I need Macro off ?

A) Macro off means that the copy protection system of the DVD player is disabled by our chip / upgrade ,  this can be useful to allow the DVD player to be connected via a VCR ( in the absence of a spare SCART socket on your TV) without the picture flashing light and dark as would happen with Macro still active.

Q) Will I be able to play copied movies ( CDR / CDRW or DVDR ) after the upgrade ?

A) Not if you cant do already , this restriction is due to the design of the player and has nothing to do with region coding.

Q) I bought my DVD player in the USA , Canada or South America and want to chip it to play European Region 2 DVD's , Can you help ?

A) Usually No , these players are usually only designed to play NTSC format DVD's and as such chipping the player to remove region coding will not usually help you play European DVD's which are PAL format.

Some newer NTSC  DVD players are also PAL compatible , if you are unsure whether your DVD player or your TV is PAL compatible we suggest you record the PAL Version of "Region Display" onto DVD-R media and if this plays correctly on your DVD player then you have a PAL compatible unit. You can download a zipped Nero Image of "Region Display" from this link   Region Display - PAL Version
